There/They’re/Their

One of, if not the, most common grammar mistakes around is the mixing up of their/there/they’re. If you’ve ever read anything on the internet, you’ve probably seen these 3 words used incorrectly more times than you can count! So let’s try to make it really clear so that next time you don’t second guess yourself.

📍 Kevin and Sue drove there after the party.  (Location/place=there)

😴😴 Kevin and Sue said they’re too tired to drive home.  (They are=they’re)

🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️Kevin and Sue send their good wishes to you.  (People=their)

Grammarly also has a few little tips if my emojis don’t fully stick.

There has the word “here” in it, to help you remember it’s referring to a figurative or literal place.

Their has the word “heir” in it, which means a person is inheriting something. This can remind you that their refers to people, not a place.

They’re has an apostrophe, which indicates that it is made from two words combined. They are here = they’re here
