1–2 minutes

read

am Speed Edits popping in today with a little word nerdy overview of two commonly used quantifiers: less and fewer. These words are often used interchangeably but they actually signify different things!

LESS is used when a number of things/items can be measured.  Less=uncountable nouns

🍭 Maggie has less in her bag than Molly.

⏰ Wyatt needed less time on the test than the rest of the class.

FEWER is used when a number of things/items can be counted.  Fewer=countable nouns

🍭 Maggie has fewer pieces of candy than Molly.

⏰ Wyatt needed ten fewer minutes to complete his test than the rest of the class.

Countable nouns include: friends, astronaut, champions, dogs, lakes, beaches, mountains, bananas, cars, weeks, days, minutes

Uncountable nouns include: furniture, water, steam, advice, information, money, love, luck, lightning, air, wind, beauty, happiness, confidence, salt, sand

I hope this helps! As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or just want to chat words and works!
